Dollar mixed ahead of jobs data

11 Mar  - Fundamental

The dollar was mixed against other currencies Thursday, down against the pound and flat against the euro and yen, ahead of U.S. economic data.

What prices are doing: The dollar edged up less than 0.1% on the euro to $1.3652, and fell less than 0.1% on the yen to ¥90.48. The greenback fell 0.4% versus the pound to $1.5044.

The dollar was higher against the yen and the pound Wednesday, and lower on the euro.

What's moving the market: Investors awaited key U.S. economic data on jobless claims and the trade balance.

The Labor Department's report on claims for unemployment insurance is due later Thursday. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com expect initial claims to fall to 460,000 from 469,000 the previous week, with continuing claims remaining unchanged at 4,500,000.

The Commerce Department is due to release the January trade balance. Economists expect the trade deficit to increase to $41 billion from $40.2 billion in December.
